Today, Microsoft posted record breaking Q4 results showing revenue of $17.37 billion which is up 8% from the same period of year 2010. The growth and result is because of the Xbox Kinect, Xbox 360, Xbox Live sales. These entertainment devices are selling like hotcake and this is definitely the start in this segment. Online services are also performing pretty well as Bing is gaining market share of search engine. Other that that, Microsoft is also coming up with Office 365 which will gong to compete with Google Docs and other cloud based documentation platforms.
But not everything is performing well for this company. In Q4 2011, Microsoft Windows sell decline by one percent and year wise the sell declined by 2%. There is no doubt that Windows 7, the current Windows OS is much better than Vista and XP but still the sale has declined. There may be more than one reason for this decline but the one which is clearly visible is the popularity of Tablet devices. Apple iPad and Android based Tablets are gaining market share every day and now people are preferring these mobile devices as they are handy and having lot many applications. Apple sells millions of iPads and even hundreds of companies are selling Android tablets. These devices will definitely hit the Windows PC market.
As Microsoft is coming with Window 8 in 2012, one can expect the growth in PC market after that release. Company is going to come up with Windows 8 tablets as well.
Anyway, congratulations Microsoft for 30% growth in net income and with this revenue, company will see full year revenue as $69.94 billion which is 12% higher than last year.
